GARY SINISE FOUNDATION

R.I.S.E. PROGRAM

When the Gary Sinise Foundation (Lt. Dan from Forrest Gump) selected Compass Design Build in 2017 to build a specially adapted smart home for Ballwin Police Officer Michael Flamion, a hometown hero who tragically became an ‘in the line of duty’ quadriplegic, our team was truly honored. “This felt like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to give back to our community,” said Pete Uetrecht, owner of Compass Design Build. After successfully combining the concept of Universal Design with our signature style and craftsmanship for the Flamion home, we were truly touched when the Gary Sinise Foundation asked us to build a second specially adapted smart home for Army Sgt. Legrand Strickland and his family in Wildwood in 2018. Sgt. Strickland sustained many injuries, including bilateral above-knee amputations and traumatic brain injury (TBI). Our team was honored to build a third specially adapted smart home in collaboration with the Gary Sinise Foundation for Arnold Police Officer Ryan O’Connor. Officer O'Connor's life-changing sacrifice in the line of duty was met with our unwavering commitment to providing him and his family a safe, accessible, and comfortable haven. The O'Connor home is now completed and stands as a testament to our dedication and the O'Connor family's resilience, ready to embrace new memories for years to come.
