SGT Strickland
Returning from a mission in Zabul, Afghanistan on February 2, 2010, Legrand’s last memory is being struck by a large explosion. He survived, but his Commander and the driver did not. Critically injured, Legrand was flown to the nearest hospital where he underwent bilateral above-knee amputations and was diagnosed with traumatic brain injury (TBI). The Gary Sinise Foundation selected Compass Design Build to design and construct Sgt. Strickland and his family a specially adapted smart home in Wildwood, Missouri.
Universal design and smart home features of this home include: an open floor plan with wider hallways and doorways, zero entry doors with ADA thresholds at all exterior door units, a curb less roll-in shower, a home automation system with the ability to voice or Ipad control audio/video, door locks, HVAC, security cameras, blinds, lighting, ceiling fans, and much, much more.
