Gary Sinise Foundation - Projects
When the Gary Sinise Foundation (Lt. Dan from Forrest Gump) selected Compass Design Build in 2017 to build a specially adapted smart home for Ballwin Police Officer Michael Flamion, a hometown hero who tragically became an ‘in the line of duty’ quadriplegic, our team was truly honored. “This felt like a once in a lifetime opportunity to give back to our community,” said Pete Uetrecht, owner of Compass Design Build. After successfully combining the concept of Universal Design with our signature style and craftmanship for the Flamion home, we were truly touched when the Gary Sinise Foundation asked us to build a second specially adapted smart home for Army Sgt. Legrand Strickland and his family in Wildwood in 2018. Sgt. Strickland sustained many injuries, including bilateral above-knee amputations and traumatic brain injury (TBI). Our team has been selected to build a third specially adapted smart home for the Gary Sinise Foundation for Arnold Police Officer Ryan O’Connor. Ryan was shot in the line of duty while on patrol in Arnold, MO, resulting in brain damage and partial paralysis. The O’Connor home is completed and ready for the family to move in and begin making great memories.
